Children, growing up in Latin America, are far less likely to have a camp experience. The vast majority of children come from families of low or poverty level income.
Donaldo of Colombia says:
“I would love to attend the 2019 national camp in Colombia (June 20). But, I have a difficult family situation and I can’t afford paying for camp.
My mom left us 3 months ago and my dad is unemployed. I decided to work to collect money for camp, but my savings had to support my family. I am relying on God’s help.”
Donaldo is one of those children in need of a campership. Learn more in our latest newsletter. Click HERE.

We are excited to share a short video from 3 new groups that just started in a church in El Salvador on Easter Sunday. The 3 Icthus groups are: LITTLE FISH (ages 4 to 6), HEROES (ages 7 to 9), and LEGIONAIRES (ages 10 – 13).
The pastor of this church, Rev. Miguel Angel Mejia said: “What happiness to know that our children are learning in such a special way. Thank you to those who have made it possible for Icthus to start in our church. Congratulations! Let's reach more kids."
Heroes, Legionnaires, and Icthus Youth (sixty children) were promoted after completing a significant part of their respective programs. Don “was present” via video to congratulate the graduates. You, as an Icthus Amigo, are a part of celebrations like this all over Latin America.

Thanks to Icthus Amigos like you we were able to hold an important 5-day International Conference in July. Thanks to the Lord it exceeded our expectations.
It all started on July 20, 1964 when a missionary encouraged a college student to start a club for the kids. The missionary was John Shackelford, director of Monte Sion Christian Camp in Guatemala. The student was Don Weisbrod on a 6-week mission trip to Guatemala from San Diego First Presbyterian Church.
From that humble beginning the Lord has grown and extended this ministry to many countries and over 100,000 yount people...

Maria Rosario Millares, who helps her husband pastor the Living Love church in Cholutca, Honduras just completed her first Icthus training.
She said, “This is just what we were praying for. We didn’t have dynamic or innovative things to do with our kids that would reinforce the Word of God in their
hearts. But now we do. And we can reach more kids in this city.
“Satan fights to damage, trap and get kids away from church. But, with attractive strategies, like the ones Icthus uses, we can transform the lives of our kids, and also support the transformation of our society. We believe it will be so!”

It was 1964.
I was 21 years old with just a smattering of Spanish when I began to develop the first Icthus group in the small town of El Progreso, Guatemala. One thing I wanted was for the kids to
have a camp experience. No one could afford a tent and probably none existed in town... continue...
John Shackelford, mentor, co-founder and long-time supporter of Icthus went to be with the Lord on Saturday March 29th, 2014.
God used John to challenge Don Weisbrod to start the Icthus ministry in 1964. Over the years he has played a crucial role in Icthus and mentoring many Icthus leaders from Latin America. John was also a pioneer of Christian camps in Latin America. Not only did John found a Christian camp and program model in Guatemala that helped to start similar programs in other countries.
