April Prayer & Praise

Dear Icthus Amigo,

In his book, The Treasure Principle, Randy Alcorn lists six Treasure Principle Keys. Key #6 is:

God prospers me, not to
raise my standard of living,

but to raise
my standard of giving

He then quotes the Apostle Paul from 2 Corinthians 9:10-11: Now he who provides seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion.

The Treasure Principle on the left grows out of Jesus’ two great commandments to love God and love our neighbors. Those commandments form the basis for THE ICTHUS SALUTE (see below).

The two testimonies in this Newsletter from Icthus volunteers show how those truths have impacted Icthus kids.

Elizabeth Jaramira, an Icthus guide in Colombia, wrote us,

“Icthus taught me to know the importance of loving God over all other things, that God is first, my neighbor is second and I am third”.

“I can say Icthus is more than a ministry, it is a training for life, and I thank God for letting me be there to be formed as a minister, and a woman of God. Each day I’m more convinced that God is wonderful and His Kingdom is eternal. I can say that I am a fruit of Icthus and this program changes lives.”

The Icthus salute includes three upraised fingers. The tall finger symbolizes God; the middle finger symbolizes my neighbor; the little finger symbolizes myself. This is a pledge of obedience to Jesus’ command to love God with all my heart...and love my neighbor as myself.

The boy on the left giving the salute is Jefersen from the Nissi Icthus group which is in Cartagena, Colombia.

Lea Anaya, and Icthus Guide in Monteria, Colombia told us, “Icthus has been a great tool in my church working with kids, but also in my life. I remember that I must wear the whole armor of God each day, and that helps me stand firm day by day. The same God who was with the heroes of the Bible that we study, is with me. So I must wait for the manifestation of the fruit of the Spirit, knowing all the time that God is first and I am third.”

“Being an Icthus guide is a wonderful experience that changes lives, not only for the kids, but for all of us who want to serve Him. We want to help change the lives of the kids we serve, like our lives were changed.”

“God is first, my neighbor is second, and I am third.” Could anything be more counter-cultural?

Our “me first” culture rejects this teaching of Jesus.  It’s amazing that Icthus kids would accept it. Only when they SEE the impact of the Christ-centered lives of their leaders and peers, are they open to saying NO to the allures of this world, and YES to the call of our loving Savior.

If the Lord has prospered you today, and you want to invest in Icthus this month, please share as generously as you can, by enclosing your check with the response coupon below.

Icthus ministers weekly to thousands of kids through guides like Lea Anaya and Elizabeth. Please help and pray that all of them will find new life in Christ, so they will also declare “I am third. Christ is first in my life.”
