HAPPY ICTHUS ANNIVERSARY!
We’re celebrating what the Lord has done for 53 years through Icthus.
It all started on July 20, 1964 when a missionary encouraged a college student to start a club for the kids. The missionary was John Shackelford, director of Monte Sion Christian Camp in Guatemala. The student was Don Weisbrod on a 6-week mission trip to Guatemala from San Diego First Presbyterian Church.
It’s amazing what the Lord did through them, others, and supportive Icthus Friends like you. It’s the story of how God takes our talents and multiplies them beyond imagination. Through the years, together we developed the Icthus programs which we implement through churches – a complete 13-year program of weekly activities for young people ages 4 to 17 and parents.
Thanks to Friends like you Icthus is helping in 15 countries in Latin America including the USA and pilot-work in Africa. Some 9,000 young people are being helped through the work of a thousand volunteers. To date, more than 100,000 young people have been helped by Icthus.
THE FUTURE – TRUSTING IN THE LORD
We are trusting God to multiply the support of Icthus Friends like you and the efforts of Icthus leaders to help more children and youth. We are trusting in Him for new projects such as a program to accelerate the guide training and starting new groups that can even be done on the internet. We trust Him to lead us forward.
When you were a child, did someone give you a birthday gift of 10¢, 25¢ or one dollar for each year of your life? In honor of the Icthus anniversary, would you do something similar?
An anniversary gift of 50¢ for each of the 53 years would be $26.50. A gift of $1 per year would be $53.
A gift of $2, $3, $4, or $5 for each year would bless even more kids.
