Pastor Carlos and his wife Cristina were praying together with their congregation about a way to reach out and bless their community. The population in their neighborhood is about 98% hispanic, with many young mothers and children. As a Hispanic church they had a burden to help, but they weren't sure how.
Then Cristina met Sarah, one of the staff members at Icthus International. She learned about the programs that Icthus offers and soon Carlos and Cristina were eagerly learning more. They recruited a group of 12 dedicated adults and young people from their church, and began training to be Icthus guides.
The training process involved two Saturday meetings and several follow-up sessions in which the new guides learned about how to lead children, youth and parents in creative ways. Each guide received their copies of the Icthus materials and began studying them.
Finally the big day came to start their Icthus groups. The new guides promoted Icthus in their neighborhoods and got many children and young people to sign up. They not only started three groups for children: Pecesitos (4-6), Heroes (7-9) and Legionaires (10-13), but also a group for the parents. Slowly more people are starting to come as they experience the fun activities and the love of their Icthus guides.
