My name is Dalmiro Ochoa. I am the pastor at the Manantial de Vida church in Colombia.
Icthus started in my church 18 years ago when my wife, Doris, started it together with a woman named Elvia. Early on, Icthus was vital for the growth of our church. Now, after all these years Icthus has brought us fruit in the form of many leaders. Our worship leaders, praise ministers, pastors and even the Church´s secretary are all former members of Icthus.
As a pastor I rejoice in the Lord for the beautiful work He has done in the lives of each one through Icthus. All these people are now active in the church because of the solid formation they received in Icthus.
Dear Icthus Friends,
My name is Wendy Amador. I'm 18 years old and I live in a small town in Honduras. Ever since I was a child I've attended church with my grandmother. When I was eight I received the Lord Jesus as my Savior. But it wasn't until I was 13 that I heard about Icthus.
My experiences in Icthus have been a huge blessing. At first I didn't pay that much attention, but by the time I was 15 my spiritual maturity was growing. I got more and more involved, and in 2012 I was trained and became a guide. When you're a young person in the program you don't notice all the sacrifices the guides make. Once you become a guide, you realize all the work they put into it, and what they go through. This just makes me love the ministry that much more.
What I love most about Icthus is that it is the only ministry in our church that takes us (youth) into account as leaders. Everyone is treated as equals, and challenged to lead emotionally, spiritually and intellectually. In Icthus I've developed my capacity to lead a group of young people in an activity called the Circle of Fish. This is a quiet time to meditate together on a story and pray for one another.
If it had not been for Icthus I wouldn't be serving God in any ministry. Icthus is the place where I've grown and learned many things. Icthus is more than a ministry. It's my family and my home.
Dios les bendiga (God bless you),
Remarkable things done by 16 to 25 year olds in our history.
I love the letter from Wendy and sharing of Rev. Ochoa above. One our key efforts is to engage young adults in doing something significant in their churches. By becoming a guide (big sister or brother) to the younger children they not only make a great impact in those young lives, but are recognized by their churches for making an important contribution. When teens and young adults are of little importance in their churches, many just leave. Icthus offers them a way to make a difference by providing leadership training and experience. As they grow they become able to serve in other roles in the church as well.
I hope many more people will lend a hand in this worthy and fruitful effort of multiplying the harvest of leaders. A partial scholarship of just $25 makes it possible for a poorer guide to attend and be equipped for this vital ministry.
