What Icthus Groups Do?

Icthus has a great impact on children, but what do they do in their groups?

Each week children meet with their group at a church or in a nearby home or park. Most meet on a Saturday afternoon for 2 or 3 hours.

Meeting activities include teaching, games, and learning activities - all planned around a curriculum. It focuses on helping children to love God, to take care of their neighbor, and to develop good habits and abilities.
A part of their curriculum includes doing service projects to help others.

While each group is different, they average about 20 children.

Inkjet and Cell Phones Campaign

Giving old cell phones is a unique way to provide camperships for children in Latin America.  It also cleans out clutter in your home and protects the environment.

Depending on the condition of the phone one or more children can go to camp.  A campership costs $20.

So far 17 people have requested collection kits to share with their groups. Thank you for participating … keep on collecting!  Click here to to get your complete ink cartridge recycling kit.

Recently, Irma Monge, Mexico national co-director, shared the following about an Icthus girl.

Mari is eleven years old and is a fairly new member of an Icthus group in Pachuca, Mexico. Mari is excited about Icthus and what she is learning. It has already had an impact on her as well as her family. Her mother said that she has seen a change and growth in her daughter.

Mari’s family has been having a tough time. Her parents are going through a separation. In the midst of this, Mari’s Icthus group has been a steadfast support system in her life. In fact, Mari’s mom shared how Mari has been encouraging her through what she is learning in Icthus. “She tells me that I need to hope in God to help me solve my problems.”

Rejoice with us that God is using Icthus to make a difference in the life of Mari and her mother. Young people are gaining tools to grow spiritually and emotionally and are being prepared to become future leaders in Icthus, their churches, and communities.

The Joy of Being a Padrino:
Padrinos (Spanish for “God Parents”) provide monthly or annual support to help one or more groups have Icthus. In the last two months, we have grown from 233 to 255 groups with Padrinos. Please pray for God’s guidance in helping to provide for the 145 groups without a Padrino.

Andy and Ellen Cox have been Padrinos for 6 months. They said:

“We were surprised that we could help a whole group of kids have Icthus for so little. We are very excited about this and are pleased to be Padrinos. We are glad that Icthus has been able to get Padrinos for so many groups and hope that enough can be found to help the other groups.”

Summer Project to Help Icthus Children:

We have a great project for your Sunday school class, Bible study group, or business place. It helps the environment and helps provide Icthus to children during the summer.

This project is our recycling campaign for collecting inkjet cartridges and/or cell phones. You decide how long you want the campaign to go for – usually one or two months. At the beginning share the little brochures that we provide with everyone. Then once a week, or whenever your group meets, thank them for bringing in their cartridges & phones.

This is a simple, low maintenance project. It takes very little time. We even provide pre-paid postage. This is a great way to help Icthus kids during the summer. Another benefit - It lets more people know about this ministry.

Please join us by having your class, group, or business participate. Just ask us for a kit. We’ll send you everything you need. Call us at (612)720-8111 or email us at: Don@IcthusKids.org to get your kit.

Camperships Help Children Go To Camp:

Isaías, 10 years old (at left), attends an Icthus group in Coronado, Costa Rica. A few months before camp last year, the company where his parents worked shut down and both of them were left without a job. Isaías really wanted to go to camp, but he knew that because of his familie’s economic situation it wouldn’t be possible. Receiving a campership (camp scholarship) made the difference and was a huge blessing to Isaías. He enjoyed an incredible time at camp with his Icthus group.

Diana, 14 years old (at right), attends the same group as Isaías in Costa Rica. She and her younger brother have been faithful members of Icthus. Finances are tight for these siblings since they are part of a single mother household. Their mom was concerned that if she paid their way to camp she would not have enough money for their other needs such as school. Thanks to the help of camperships both Diana and her brother were able to go to camp.

Upcoming Camp

Please would you pray for the upcoming camp in Ibague, Colombia on June 26th to 30th? The Icthus team is planning for 80 children. Thanks to Icthus friends like you we are able to provide camperships to poor children to help with transportation and camp costs for this camp.

Would you like to help some children go to camp? Camperships are $20. To provide camperships to needy children click on the donate button and indicate that your gift is for the Campership Program. Thank you.

Children: The largest, neediest, and most receptive mission field

Icthus is supported by individuals and churches. It helps children in Latin America by proving guidance to build Christian character. By equipping local churches, Icthus provides a Christian club type program to thousands of underprivileged children with meetings, activities, service projects and camps.

The programs of Icthus are: Little Fish (4 to 6 years old), Benjamin (7 to 9 years), Legion (10 to 13), Youth (14 to 18). Icthus is a program for parents too, so that entire families are helped.

Gifts to Icthus are tax deductible according to IRS regulations. We are members and subscribe to the high standards of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability.

Send your check in now to: Icthus International, P.O. Box 177, Monrovia CA 91017, or you may donate online.

Thank you for your support.
